USA for Africa provides modest grants to non-profit organizations, grassroots associations and community-led efforts across Africa, and within the United States. Our funding supports a wide diversity of initiatives, from youth engagement in environmental and climate action, to women’s empowerment, cultural work and human rights; from community farms and sustainable agriculture, to peace building, emergency relief and humanitarian assistance.

Aburi Crafts Village

Aburi Crafts Village, nestled in the scenic Aburi region of Ghana, is a vibrant hub celebrating the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the country.

APROFES
Association pour la Promotion de la Femme Senegalaise

Since its creation in 1987, the Association for the Advancement of Senegalese Women (APROFES) has worked “to build a society based on citizen participation and respect for human rights, without any discrimination based on gender, class, or generation. This vision was born from the conviction of a group of young women who, drawing on their experiences, understood that development programs often fail when they ignore women's concerns.

Association M'Bagnon de Lafokpokaha

Located in the rural northern regions of Ivory Coast, West Africa, this women’s cooperative is dedicated to advancing income-generating activities that empower women to support their families and communities. A central focus of the cooperative is the cultivation and production of shea butter—an endeavor that not only sustains livelihoods but also preserves traditional knowledge and local resources.

CACTUS CREEK

Grants have supported Cactus Creek in its collaboration with Soronko Academy, a leading tech and digital skills training institution in Ghana, to deliver high-impact digital education programs for young people across the country.

DERE Institute: Djibouti Espace De Reflexion et D’Echange

DERE has mobilized and trained young people to take an active role in environmental preservation and climate adaptation. Through workshops and advocacy initiatives, youth groups have gained knowledge in sustainable practices, waste management, and biodiversity protection. A pilot three-day training engaged 30 youth activists, fostering collaboration and raising awareness of climate challenges in their communities.

USTAZ Abdullatif Foundation in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia

This foundation has become a lifeline for underprivileged children and young girls in Dire Dawa City. It launched the Women’s Skills Enhancement Program, giving young women access to technical training that builds confidence, independence, and pathways to employment.

Women in Action Network (WIAN)

The Women in Action Network (WIAN) is a dynamic initiative in Ghana dedicated to advancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable livelihoods for women, with a particular emphasis on the shea butter industry in Northern Ghana.
