Statement
Wednesday, May 25, 2016 marks the 30th Anniversary of “Hands Across America the historic humanitarian event unlike any that has been produced before or since. Over 6 million people joined hands from coast to coast – starting from Battery park in downtown New York City, through the White House to the illustrious Queen Mary docked in Long Beach, California. People of all ages, races and ethnicities participated to display their support.
This amazing event raised over $20 million dollars to raise awareness and help those in America battling hunger and homelessness. “Hands Across America” was a call to action for individuals and organizations to take action to help solve these problems.
“Hands Across America” was a tremendous success 30 years ago. Unfortunately in 2016 we are still faced with 50 million hungry and over 500,000 homeless people nationwide who struggle on a daily basis. As part of the 30th Anniversary efforts, “Hands Across America” will provide 10 grants to homeless and hunger organizations that continue to help those in need on a daily basis.
